PORTLAND, Ore. – Heavy mountain snow is threatening Oregon’s Cascades, prompting the Portland National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory until Tuesday morning.
Mountain snow began to fall over Oregon’s Cascades Monday afternoon and evening. The severe winter weather is forecast to continue throughout the week, with feet of snow likely above 4,000 feet.
The Portland National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for elevations above 4,000 feet, with 3-8 inches of snow expected until Tuesday morning. As winter weather returns to the mountains, more winter alerts may be issued this week at higher elevations.
Visibility will most certainly be compromised as the likelihood of blowing snow increases, with wind gusts approaching 35 mph.
Mountain pass travel will likely be hazardous at times this week, with snow elevations ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 feet.
