A large winter storm is expected to hit New Mexico from late tonight to Friday, bringing heavy precipitation, particularly in higher elevations.
Blizzard-like conditions could develop in northeast New Mexico and along the central mountain chain, with accumulations exceeding 12 inches and perhaps exceeding 24 inches in the Sangre de Cristos.
In addition to the snow, a backdoor cold front will bring windy conditions and temperatures that are far below normal across the state.
As the winter system moves on Saturday, homeowners should expect a brief period of clearing and a modest warmer trend into the weekend. Road closures and power disruptions are expected in affected areas.
