Two people were injured in a collision around 6:44 a.m. on Wednesday at Southern Crossing, according to Bartholomew County Sheriff officers.
Deputies discovered two automobiles involved in the accident, one of which came to rest on its roof, trapping the occupant, according to Sgt. Dane Duke, a sheriff’s office spokesman.
The driver of the inverted vehicle, Gerard Morin, 68, of Columbus, was retrieved and transferred by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with significant injuries, Duke said. The other driver, Bradley Dewees, 49, of Nashville, Indiana, was sent to Columbus Regional Hospital.
The Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate this occurrence. According to preliminary information, Dewees crossed the center line while traveling westbound, resulting in a head-on accident with Morin’s car, which was traveling eastbound, Duke said.
During this time, the sheriff’s office responded to three separate vehicle collisions near Southern Crossing, resulting in substantial delays and road closures, Duke said.
