Three Injured in Grant County Crash After Driver Runs Stop Sign, DUI Suspected

Three persons were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Grant County on Monday night.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 28 and Road S Northwest near Quincy, when 72-year-old Katherine Konen ran a stop sign and collided with a minivan driven by 65-year-old Juana Gomez.

Gomez and two of her six passengers, 45-year-old Anna Mejia and a 15-year-old girl, were hurt in the incident and sent to Quincy Valley Medical Center for treatment, while Konen and the other four passengers in Gomez’s vehicle, ages 3, 11, 17, and 18, were unharmed.

All eight people involved in the accident are Quincy residents.

According to troopers, Konen was inebriated at the time of the crash and was cited for DUI and vehicular assault.

The incident slowed traffic on the highway for many hours while investigators worked the site and personnel removed the debris.
