The parents of a Utah woman accused of murdering her husband were detained for allegedly cleaning up the crime scene, according to Salt Lake City jail records.
Thomas Ray Gledhill, 71, and Rosalie Christianson Gledhill, 67, were taken into jail on Thursday. According to inmate records, both were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on obstruction of justice charges.
Their daughter Jennifer Gledhill, 41, of Cottonwood Heights, was arrested earlier this month after telling a police informant that she shot her husband on the bed, buried his body, and then removed and destroyed belongings from the house to conceal the crime. She is being imprisoned in jail for murder and other accusations.
Investigators discovered a bloodstain on the carpet beneath the bed and blood on the bed frame. According to CBS station KUTV, authorities stated that “significant clean-up had occurred following this crime, including bleaching walls and using carpet cleaning supplies.”
According to KUTV, investigators said in a probable cause statement that the mother purchased the mattress to replace the one on which they suspected the husband was killed.
They also claimed that Gledhill called her father while on her way to bury the body. The father told authorities he was at the house for less than an hour, while neighbors said he stayed for more than five.
According to court papers, Gledhill and her husband, former National Guardsman Matthew Johnson, 51, were in the midst of a difficult divorce and custody battle over their three children.
