This week, the Oregon Coast will have king tides, harsh weather, and 28-foot waves.
The Pacific Northwest had exceptionally high, seasonal tides on November 15, 16, and 17. Coastal flooding is probable during this time, as tides can exceed the highest average tide mark by six inches or more.
Waves of 22 to 28 feet are expected to hit the Oregon Coast on Monday and Tuesday, potentially catastrophic. The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
“Dangerous high surf is expected along all southern Oregon coastlines and beaches Monday evening through Tuesday evening, increasing and maxing out Tuesday morning at 25 to 28 feet,” the National Weather Service’s Medford office says.
“Surf heights are forecast to drop to 20 to 25 feet Tuesday night. Be extremely cautious near the beach. Maintain a safe distance from the ocean. Jetties, pebbles, logs, and driftwood in the surf zone are hazardous.”
Showers and thunderstorms are possible along the Oregon Coast this week.
