On Sunday, a gunshot and a car accident along the Chicago-Cicero border killed one person and injured at least six others, according to authorities.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the incident occurred near Roosevelt and Cicero.
Responding units discovered two scenes: a shooting on eastbound Roosevelt Road and an accident on northbound Cicero, according to Cicero police.
Seven persons were hurt in the gunfire and crash. According to Cicero police, four of the victims received gunshot wounds, with one dying later at a local hospital.
A woman who was shot in the incident was brought to a nearby hospital in serious condition, while two other victims were taken to hospitals in fair condition.
Police reported three people were hurt in the ensuing automobile accident, but they did not provide any updates on their status.
Nearby business owners heard the chaos unfold.
“I came out and there was an accident, people running, screaming, traffic, police, ambulances,” said Louie Rainone, Roosevelt Gold Exchange’s owner. “One guy is laying on the street I mean it was just… a war zone.”
He claimed there had been an increase in criminality at the crossing in recent years.
“It’s ridiculous, you can’t go to work, you got to be careful, I got to be in a bulletproof room, everything around here has to be behind bulletproof glass because of the way society is today,” he told me.
Cicero police will investigate the incident, with support from other local departments, including Chicago police.
Nobody is currently in custody.
