We’re still expecting a drenching rain across the area Monday afternoon and night. There may also be a few flakes in our region by Wednesday.
above the next day or so, an upper-level low-pressure system above Arizona will travel rapidly northeastward. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is pouring northward ahead of the low, causing widespread showers in Texas and New Mexico. This enormous swath of rain will move across the Central Plains overnight tonight, then into Iowa and Minnesota on Monday.
Monday will start dry in our area, with some sunlight and cirrostratus clouds overhead. However, by noon, rain is expected in northern Iowa. Rain will continue to fall across southern Minnesota into the early afternoon.
A warm front will travel over the area Monday night, bringing widespread rain throughout the night. Most places are predicted to receive at least 1 inch of rain by Tuesday AM due to the extended rainy period.
Rain ends by Tuesday afternoon, with intermittent showers lasting into the morning. Cloudy skies persist for the remainder of the day, with some clearing likely Tuesday night.
Clouds will increase again Wednesday as moisture wraps around the backside of the low to our north. With much colder air surrounding the low, any precipitation that falls will be in the form of snow. Scattered snow showers are expected from Wednesday afternoon until midnight, with accumulations of less than one inch.
Things will dry out by the end of the week, with some sunlight possible on Friday! Hopefully, we can end the week on a brighter note, despite the substantially lower temperatures!
