The South Carolina Highway Patrol said one person was killed Friday after two classic vehicles crashed on a Midlands road.
Cpl. David Jones said that the head-on collision occurred at noon in Sumter County.
Jones reported seeing a 1985 Oshkosh commercial truck going west on U.S. 378. Jones added that around the intersection with Brewington Road, the truck collided with a 1990 Honda motorcycle heading east in the westbound lanes.
Jones reported that the motorcycle rider died at the site. Ray Prosser, a 73-year-old Florence County resident, died in what Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker described as an accident.
Jones stated that the truck driver was not injured, and no further injuries were reported.
There was no indication on whether Prosser was wearing a helmet or the truck driver was wearing a seatbelt.
There was no information available about why the motorbike turned toward oncoming traffic, but the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office are still investigating the collision. Baker said an autopsy was set for Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
