A police investigation into a fatality and vehicle fire forced the closure of a portion of Interstate 40 in Greensboro for many hours on Wednesday.
Greensboro police arrived at the site on Interstate 40 West, near Guilford College, shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to a news release, Greensboro police had to close I-40 West “due to an investigation.” The call was initially received as “law assistance needed,” however it has subsequently been categorized as a “vehicle fire.”
According to authorities, the person in the vehicle died during the inquiry.
According to the Greensboro Fire Department, 16 firefighters were attempting to extinguish the fire. At 12:41 p.m., the fire was under control.
The highway was open by 3:15 p.m.
