Driver and Two Children Hospitalized After School Bus Collides With Residence in Union City

On Wednesday morning, a school bus collided with a residence in Union City, Indiana.

Randolph County Dispatch stated the accident occurred at 8:13 a.m. at the junction of Jackson and Hickory Streets in Union City.

Andy Seiber, who lives with his wife in the house involved in the incident, claimed they were woken up by an “awful noise” that sounded like a large explosion. When they peeked out the windows, his wife noticed the Randolph Eastern School bus underneath their second-floor bedroom.

Seiber stated that by the time he and his wife arrived downstairs, the children had exited the bus.

According to a social media post by the Randolph Eastern Schools Corporation, the bus was carrying 20 children and the driver at the time of the crash.

Two pupils and their driver were sent to the hospital. The remainder of the youngsters were either transported to school or released to their parents.

According to Eric Hiatt, public safety director for Union City, Indiana, the bus driver may have had a medical issue before the tragedy.

Hiatt said he wanted to thank the older students for helping to get the younger pupils off the bus and across the street to safety, allowing first responders to treat the injured students and driver.

Hiatt stated that the injuries were not considered significant.
