BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – On Wednesday afternoon, a terrible crash occurred on Interstate 83 in Baltimore County, killing two persons.
Around 2 p.m., a pickup truck going south with a trailer lost control and drove into oncoming traffic, according to Maryland State Police. According to state police, the truck collided with a mobile crane, causing both vehicles to catch fire and three additional cars to crash.
The driver of a pickup truck and the driver of a mobile crane were both confirmed dead at the scene near Parkton, about 5 miles south of the Pennsylvania border, state police said. Four more persons were hurt and transported by ambulance to a hospital in York, Pennsylvania.
The lanes and shoulders of I-83 North at Exit 33 for MD Route 45 or York Road were closed around 2:15 p.m. and stayed closed until 6:30 p.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.
Around 5:30 p.m., a few investigators took images of the scene, which featured two wrecked SUVs on the right side of northbound 83. A wrecked black automobile sat on a grassy incline between the freeway and the ramp. Further down, a baby blue Subaru with two crushed doors on the driver’s side was missing a wheel.
Hazmat firefighters from the Baltimore County Fire Department arrived on the scene, and residents should expect “major delays,” according to the department.
