A 17-year-old girl died and three other youths were critically injured in a two-vehicle incident in Waikoloa this morning, according to Hawaii island police.
Jessica Ann Sprinkle, a Waikoloa teen, died.
At 7:59 a.m., police responded to a crash at the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway and Waikoloa Road.
According to investigators, the 17-year-old was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Spark automobile when it was broadsided by a southbound white 2018 Peterbilt tractor-trailer transporting 5,000 gallons of water.
The girl was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:51 a.m.
According to authorities, the Chevrolet also carried three female passengers, all of whom were critically injured and transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital for initial care. Two of the passengers were eventually taken to Oahu for further treatment, while the third stayed in the village hospital.
