16-year-old Victim Found Shot in Belleville; Witnesses Report Two Male Suspects

On Saturday night, cops found a 16-year-old boy lying in the road near the curb in the 900 block of N. Second St. in Belleville. He had been shot several times.

According to Belleville Police Capt. Todd Keilbach, the police department got a call about the shooting at 6:51 p.m.

“When officers got there, they found a male victim who was 16 years old,” he said.

Officers gave the person first aid before MedStar EMS arrived. Keilbach said the boy was taken to a hospital in St. Louis for medical care.

Police quickly secured the spot and started their investigation.

“According to the initial investigation, the victim got into a fight over drugs with two other male suspects right before the shooting,” Kielbach said.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the suspects were two black men who dressed all in black and looked to be in their teens, Keilbach said. He said the last time they were seen, they were running away toward West H Street, one on foot and the other on a bike.

The name of the victim has not been made public.

According to Keilbach, the case is still going on and police are following up on leads. By Sunday afternoon, the suspects still hadn’t been found.
