ATLANTA, Tx. — CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta and the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a blessing and ribbon cutting for the new and expanded emergency department Wednesday.

“This has really been three years in the thought process, easily two years in the making project, that is just overwhelming to see it finally coming together,” said CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta Administrator Thomas McKinney.

The $900,000 investment to expand the emergency department will bring a total of 10 treatment rooms, including specialty rooms designed to treat trauma, stroke, chest pain, pediatrics, and psychiatrics. The new department will have two entrances: one for patients to self-present and the other for emergency vehicles.

The Level IV Trauma Center and Level III Stroke Center at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta will provide Cass County residents with nationally recognized emergency services care, including on-site physicians 168 hours a week. The hospital also offers a full range of laboratory and radiology services, upgraded monitoring systems to support cardiac patients, as well as tPA administration for the treatment of strokes.

“One of the greatest things I’ve ever been a part of that I’m proud of is bringing CHRISTUS St. Michael to Atlanta,” said Tom Granberry, past chair of the Atlanta Hospital Authority. “There’s no doubt about it. Wow. Look at this. Look at the investment they’ve made in our community.”

In addition, emergency services at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta are enhanced by a focus on training and education to include advanced certifications for RNs such as Stroke Certification, Emergency Certification, and Trauma Certification.
“That is a huge commitment that we don’t just provide care here, but we’re providing excellent care,” said President, Chief Executive Officer CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System.

Other recent investments which will support the new enhanced emergency services at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta include a new digital x-ray suite, upgraded CT scanner, and various pieces of minor equipment from patient stretchers to emergency department lobby furniture.

“Remember their motto: to extend the healing hand of Jesus Christ. That says it all.”
