Wrong-way Crash on US 70 Leaves One Dead, Three Injured; Authorities Searching for BMW Driver

A driver who caused a collision by driving the wrong way along a major highway is being sought by the authorities, who have stated that they are searching for the driver.

After a hit-and-run accident that occurred early on Sunday morning, a lady who was 24 years old was pronounced dead at the scene, and three other people, including a kid who was under the age of five, were gravely injured.

It was approximately 3:04 in the morning when the collision took place on United States Route 70 in Johnston County, close to the Cornwallis Road underpass, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. A head-on collision occurred between a white Jeep Cherokee and a white BMW that was going west in the eastbound lanes, according to the Michigan Highway Patrol.

Kortney Atkins, 24, a resident of Goldsboro, was a passenger in a Jeep Cherokee. According to the troopers, she passed away while the vehicle was traveling to WakeMed.

An agency from the state has reported that Sydney Skelding, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, as well as two passengers in the backseat, Michael Atkins, who is 25 years old, and a young kid who is under the age of five, sustained critical injuries.

The driver of the BMW reportedly fled the scene of the accident as soon as it was discovered that one of the vehicles had taken fire after the collision.

After conducting a search that included the use of a K-9 unit, deputies from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the suspect driver was still at large.

After being closed for some hours, the roadway wasn’t reopened until approximately 5:43 in the morning. During the continued hunt for the BMW driver, the State Highway Patrol has stated that the inquiry is still ongoing. According to the authorities, charges are anticipated.
