
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Texas Baseball lost the series finale to West Virginia, 8-6, on Sunday at Monangalia County Ballpark.
The Longhorns (34-17, 11-10) will return home to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for the final five regular season games, starting against Texas Southern on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Dylan Campbell went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Douglas Hodo III was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Skyler Messinger was 2-for-4 with a double.
Zane Morehouse started and pitched two innings before Tristan Stevens came out of the bullpen to log three innings.
Texas started strong, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. After Hodo singled off of the pitcher and Austin Todd walked to start the game, Melendez hammered an RBI double to left for the first run. Murphy Stehly followed with an RBI groundout before Dylan Campbell hit an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
West Virginia got the runs back in the bottom of the second inning, scoring three runs to tie the game up 3-3.
The Longhorns retook the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fourth inning. Hodo lined a two-out, two-run single up the middle to drive in the go-ahead runs.
The Mountaineers quickly got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to trim the lead to 5-4.
West Virginia grabbed its first lead of the weekend in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a three-run double to go up 7-5.
One more Mountaineer run came across in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 8-5.
Texas scratched out one run in the top of the ninth but was unable to score enough to continue the game.
