Hanging Christmas lights? Saturday brings milder weather with a breezy south breeze. Sunday will be chilly, but quiet and sunny—just layer up!
Frost Flowers Delight Early Risers
Friday morning offered an unusual sight to areas of Oklahoma: frost blossoms. These beautiful patterns form when heated earth forces moisture through plant stems, freezing them into intricate designs. Thank you to Sequoyah Quinton, one of our storm monitors, for sharing this interesting phenomenon!
Early Friday morning, a surface ridge of high pressure will bring low to mid-20s temperatures. Black Friday consumers will want to bundle up before heading out to the sales.
Sunshine and light winds are expected Friday afternoon, with daytime highs in the upper 40s.
Another front will hit the area Saturday afternoon, bringing gusty north winds and dropping temperatures for the remainder of the weekend. Saturday morning temperatures will be in the 40s, with midday highs reaching the upper 50s.
Strong north winds and rising clouds will sweep across southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. A weak upper-level disturbance trailing behind the front may bring a few light snow showers in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Most, if not all, of this action will occur northeast of our immediate area.
Colder weather will return early Saturday afternoon and evening, with temperatures dropping fast from the 50s to the 40s.
Sunday morning will begin with another deep freeze, with temperatures in the mid-20s and daytime highs in the lower 40s. On Sunday, we predict largely bright skies and a little breeze.
What is the Outlook For Next Week?
Similar weather is expected on Monday, with morning lows in the lower to mid-20s and midday highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
A southern stream system increases rain possibilities to north Texas early next week. Some of these showers may move into southeastern Oklahoma on Monday evening or Thursday, but the chances remain slim.
