ATLANTA, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) says they will resurface a portion of U.S.-59 southwest of Atlanta starting in 2023.

According to the transportation department, plans were approved in July for the resurfacing project.

“The resurfacing project will begin just south of FM 2328 North and end 1.9 miles south of FM 2328 South. The total project length is about 2.3 miles,” Texarkana area engineer Tommy Bruce said. “The project will also include some improvements to the bridge rail in that section along with new pavement markings.”

East Texas Bridge, Inc. of Longview was awarded the contract with a bid of $11.8 million.

Work is expected to begin in January 2023 and should be completed the following September.
