TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED in UTV Rollover Crash Monday Night Near Garnett in Anderson County

Two people were left with serious injuries following a dramatic crash on Monday night in Anderson County, authorities report. The incident involved a utility task truck, transforming what began as a routine ride into a harrowing accident scene that now has investigators piecing together the events leading to the collision.

At 6:31 p.m. on Monday, the collision was reported to have occurred at 29852 N.E. Neosho Road, which is approximately 2 miles northeast of Garnett.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2009 Polaris Ranger UTV was heading in the northeastern direction on Neosho Road when the driver was unable to handle a curve due to an approaching vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.

According to the patrol, the driver of the UTV lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in the vehicle flipping over. Major injuries were sustained by the driver, identified as James G. Matthiesen, who was 40 years old and from Lane. He was sent to Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. According to the patrol, Matthiesen was not wearing a safety restraint at the time.

Trevor J. Matthiesen, 13, from Lane, was a passenger who sustained significant injuries and was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City; he was brought there. Trevor was reportedly wearing a safety restraint, according to the police.
