Two Dead, One Seriously Injured in Lafourche Parish Crash; Investigation Into Impairment Ongoing

Two persons were killed and a third badly injured in a crash in Lafourche Parish on Thursday night, November 28.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers from Troop C began investigating the incident, which occurred soon before 9 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 1 at the intersection with Louisiana Highway 3185.

According to the preliminary investigation, 19-year-old Trent Truxillo of Houma was driving south at high speeds on Louisiana Highway 1 in a 2015 Nissan Altima, while 44-year-old Johnnie Bennett Jr. of Thibodaux was driving east on Louisiana Highway 3185 and approaching the intersection in a 2018 Cadillac XTS.

According to police, Truxillo ran through the red light and collided with the Cadillac as Bennett approached.

Truxillo and Bennett were both unrestrained and died at the scene. A passenger in the Altima was properly strapped and transported to an out-of-area hospital with significant injuries.

Troopers believe Truxillo was impaired. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for processing as part of the continuing inquiry.
