ELK MOUND, Wis. – In western Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon, the driver of an SUV that failed to yield at a stop sign at a railroad crossing was flown away from the site of a collision with a train. The collision occurred in the western part of the state.
A press release issued by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office claims that deputies were informed of a vehicle that had been struck by a train on December 12 at approximately 3:15 p.m., and the incident occurred in Elk Mound, close to the intersection of 970th Street and US Highway 12.
It has been reported that the driver of the SUV traveling in the southbound direction failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign at the railroad crossing that is located close to that intersection, according to the preliminary investigation that the authorities have conducted.
Due to this, the SUV was struck by the train traveling in the eastbound direction on the passenger side. While the driver was transported away from the scene of the accident by helicopter, the two passengers who were still on board were sent to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Investigators from the Elk Mound Police Department and the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation into the crash.
