SWLA Weather Update: Potential for 4-8 Inches of Rain and Flash Flooding Saturday

Rain looks more likely in SWLA on Saturday, with excellent coverage also forecast.

A cold front will arrive from the west, bringing plenty of showers and thunderstorms to SWLA. If you have outdoor plans, it would be a good idea to prepare an inside option, however, there may still be some opportunities to go outside, especially in the morning, while some rain is still likely.

The front is anticipated to stall near or over SWLA. Along the way, a slow-moving belt of showers and storms will have a significant impact on rainfall totals. Bend stalls may occur outside of our territory, resulting in reduced totals.

However, if the storm stalls over us, we could see localized rainfall totals of 4-6 inches, with some areas receiving 6-8 inches by Sunday morning. That would also make flash flooding possible in certain areas by late Saturday, so keep an eye out!

Thankfully, Sunday will bring less rain as a front sweeps off to our east, pushing the storm away. For the time being, the outlook includes a 20% probability of rain in case a lingering shower continues. Otherwise, temperatures will be warm, with lows in the upper 60s and highs in the lower 80s.

The weather on Monday and Tuesday appears to be pleasant, if warmer than usual for this time of year. Lows will fall into the upper 50s and low 60s, while highs will peak in the low 80s.

The next cold front will approach our area around the middle of next week, with the front expected to arrive Thursday. This could result in a few showers, but rain does not appear to be a possibility at this moment.

Temperatures will notably drop behind this front, with lows in the 40s and 50s by the end of the week! Afternoon highs will also be closer to normal, with most places reaching the mid-70s.

Hurricane Rafael is unlikely to have an impact on SWLA because its course is well south of Louisiana.
