Severe Storm to Hit Southern Oregon: Wind Gusts Up to 70 Mph, 4 Inches of Rain Expected

Southern Oregon is preparing for the season’s most severe storm, which is expected to bring heavy rain and strong gusts from tonight until Wednesday night.

A cold front heading east today may bring prolonged showers, especially along the coast and in the Southern Cascades.

The quiet will be short-lived, as a stronger frontal system arrives Tuesday night, propelled by a deepening upper trough in the western Aleutians.

Expect wind gusts of up to 70 mph on the coast and 60 mph inland, resulting in Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings in affected regions.

Rainfall might total 2 to 4 inches in the coastal mountains, with up to 6 inches possible east of Brookings.

Inland locations west of the Cascades will receive modest rain, while high snow levels will keep roadways safe from winter risks. Although catastrophic flooding is unlikely due to low river levels, minor floods, and debris-clogged streams may occur.
