One person was killed and another critically injured when their car collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 69 near Auburn.
DeKalb County Central Communications announced on Facebook that I-69 northbound was stopped around 2 p.m. around the 326-mile marker, which is near the Auburn rest stop.
Indiana State Police (ISP) announced that one individual, 22-year-old Mia Stevens of Indianapolis, perished in the crash. Another person in the automobile, Meghan Houston, 22, of Indianapolis, was brought to the hospital with significant injuries.
According to the ISP, traffic in the vicinity was halted owing to construction and merging traffic when the collision occurred.
Investigators suspect Stevens, who was driving the automobile, failed to detect the halted traffic and swerved to avoid a collision. However, the car’s driver’s side collided with the back of a semi-truck that was stalled in traffic. ISP also believes Stevens was driving at “highway speed” at the time of the crash.
The semi-truck driver was not injured.
According to the map, traffic was stopped throughout the afternoon from the Allen County line to Auburn. For hours, authorities diverted traffic from the roadway at the County Road 11A exit.
