School Bus Carrying 41 High School Students Crashes in Charleston, Leaving 9 Injured

A school bus and an automobile collided on Thursday, leaving nine people hospitalized.

Following the incident, Patriot Boulevard at Appian Way was closed to traffic heading toward Ashley Phosphate Road at 8:30 a.m. The road reopened about 11 a.m.

The bus was carrying 41 pupils when it crashed. Photos show the bus’s windshield broken.

According to Andy Pruitt, spokesman for the Charleston County School District, the children were all on their way to R.B. Stall High School.

Six of those children were hospitalized. Three occupants in the involved vehicle were also transported to the hospital.

All parents have been alerted, and all children involved are either with their parents, at the hospital, or at school.

The extent of the injuries sustained in this incident is unknown at this time.
