Safety features being added to Texarkana area highways

TXDOT

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Atlanta office announced Friday a series of safety features that will be added to Texarkana area highways.

The safety features will be in the form of high-friction surface treatment, profile edgeline, and centerline markings that will be installed in the coming months. The plans were approved in August by TXDOT.

“We are looking at placing a high-friction surface treatment several curves to improve traction and reduce skidding,” said Rebecca Wells, Director of Traffic Operations for TxDOT in Atlanta.  “In addition, we will be installing texturized pavement methods to centerline areas of these highways to help prevent crossover crashes and along the shoulders to prevent run-off-the-road crashes The texturized pavement methods make noise when vehicle tires run over them, alerting drivers that they are getting out of their traffic lane.”

According to Wells, the projects will begin in October 2020 and take almost nine months to complete. Truesdell Corporation of Tempe, Arizona, was awarded the contract for the construction of the projects with a bid of $2.4 million.
