The Rangers were defeated by the Rockies tonight, 7-3, in the final exhibition game for both clubs. With this week’s exhibition games counting towards the original Spring Training statistics, Texas finishes the Cactus League/Summer Camp schedule with a 12-10 record.
Todd Frazier hit the first home run by a Ranger at Globe Life Field, taking Antonio Senzatela deep for a three-run blast down the right field line to tie the game at 3-3 in the 5th inning. Frazier’s blast scored Danny Santana and Joey Gallo, who began the frame with a single and walk, respectively. Jeff Mathis doubled for the only other extra-base knock among Texas’ five total hits. Luke Farrell, Edinson Vólquez, and José Leclerc each worked 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.
Jordan Lyles, who pitched for Colorado from 2014-17, allowed three runs over 4.2 innings in his final start before the regular season. The Rockies struck for four runs in the 6th inning off Kolby Allard, with Drew Butera’s three-run home run giving Colorado a 7-3 lead to provide the final margin.
Following an off day tomorrow, the Rangers open the 2020 regular season on Friday against the Rockies. First pitch from Globe Life Field is set for 7:05 p.m. CT, with RHP Lance Lynn slated to make his first career Opening Day start against Colorado RHP Germán Márquez.
