Texas A&M pitcher Christian Roa was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The sophomore right-hander went 7.0 scoreless innings in the rubber match of the Aggies’ series with the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Houston product struck out seven and allowed one runner in scoring position. Roa is 2-1 with a save and a 2.29 ERA in eight appearances in 2019 along with two starts, and he has held opponents to a .200 batting average and has 21 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
The righty winning the award makes him the second such Aggie to earn it in 2019. John Doxakis is the other, and he did so after opening weekend. There have been eight Maroon and White pitchers who have won the conference honor since Texas A&M baseball joined the SEC in 2013.
