Rangers ink RHP McAllister to 1-year deal

Rangers 2-0 win Mariners

The Texas Rangers signed right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister to a one-year contract, the club announced Tuesday.

The 31-year-old has compiled a 3.38 ERA and averaged 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings as a reliever since 2011, a role he has pitched exclusively since 2015.

In 2018, McAllister spent time with the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers, producing a 1-2 record with a 6.20 ERA (31 ER/45.0 IP) over 44 relief appearances. Cleveland released the righty on Aug. 7 and the Tigers signed him on Aug. 10. He was designated for assignment after appearing in two games for Detroit. McAllister finished up 2018 with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization where he signed a minor league deal on Aug. 27.

Texas now has 62 players on the club’s spring training roster; 40 major league spots, 22 non-roster invites.
