Rangers activate Chavez, place Rodriguez on IL

Rangers 2-0 win Mariners

SEATTLE — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez off the 10-day Injured List.  The team has placed left-handed pitcher Joely Rodríguez on the 10-day Injured List with a left hamstring strain.

Chavez was placed on the Injured List on August 24, retroactive to August 23, with a sprained left big toe.  He threw a live batting practice session at T-Mobile Park prior to Friday’s game in Seattle.  Chavez has allowed 11 runs/earned runs over 12 appearances and 11.1 innings for the Rangers this season.  His last game appearance came on August 22 at Seattle.  Chavez has issued just 4 walks to 51 total batters faced in 2020.

Rodríguez sustained his hamstring injury on a 0-1 pitch to Kyle Lewis with 2 outs in the 7th inning of Saturday night’s game at Seattle.  He exited the game at that point.  Rodríguez has posted no record and a 2.13 ERA (3 ER/12.2 IP) over 12 relief appearances for Texas this season.  He missed the start of the season on the Injured List for a left lat strain.
