TEXARKANA — The Pleasant Grove Hawks were able to hold off the comeback from the Atlanta Rabbits and pick up another win 68-61 Tuesday night at Hawk Gym.
The Rabbs trailed by 21 at halftime but stormed back to pull within seven of the Hawks.
Coach Jarrod Boston was proud of how Atlanta did not submit and kept battling.
“We talked at halftime about battling back,” Boston said. “If you would have told me Pleasant Grove was going to make 13 threes I would have never believed it for a second. We really battled in the second half and I was proud of our effort.”
Alex Boston was the leading scorer for the Rabbs with 30 points, including four 3-pointers, and earned the Stuart Smith Superior Realty Player of the Game.
Aiden Boston provided 10 points. Kameron Dickerson had eight points. Caleb King scored six points. Stacy Dougherty had four points.
Cade Cohen had Whitt Lawrence had 12 points apiece.
Kennan Kelly had 10 points. Kason Wright had six points. Torean Phillips, Martin Haley, and Ben Bricker each had five points. Jaylen Boardley provided three points.
“Tale of two halves,” Hawks coach Craig Collvins explained. “I thought we played really well the first half and the second half we broke down too many times on defense that allowed them to get back into the game. Some of it is just trying to mix the football guys in with our straight basketball guys. Some of it’s getting more practice time. Overall it’s a good win for our group.”
The JV Hawks defeated the JV Rabbs 55-42.
