Pleasant Grove boys, Queen City girls win Bill Hines track meet titles

LINDEN, Texas – Pleasant Grove’s varsity and junior varsity boys ran away from their competition Thursday at the Bill Hines Tiger Relays, hosted by Linden-Kildare High School.

The Hawks’ varsity piled up 135 points, with James Bowie making a strong showing with 123 points for second place. Paul Pewitt followed with 114.5, with the host Tigers fourth at 109. PG’s jayvee boys won with 172 points.

Queen City’s girls prevailed in their division with 140 points. Linden-Kildare was second at 120, with Pleasant Grove third in the 10-team field at 80.

Pleasant Grove’s varsity boys won gold in five events, including the 4 x 200 relay. Riley Durmon, Sergio Rodriguez, Nick Martin and Bruce Garrett won on 1:35.31.

The Hawks captured gold in two field events. Quinn Bingham won the pole vault by clearing 13-3. Nick Martin won the triple jump with a leap of 42-0 1/2. Sergio Rodriguez smoked the field in the 100 with a time of 10.93, and Linton Colvin won the 400 in 51.03.

Pleasant Grove’s girls brought home three gold medals.

Hanna Snyder won the 100 in 12.65, with teammate Olivia Kirk second in 13.34. Snyder also won the 200 in 26.91. Jazzmin Hever won the 400 in 1:02.72.

Queen City girls win six events

Queen City won six events, including all three relays. The team of Xavia Owens, Ivori Larry, Emma Baker and Nyla Harrison won the 4 x 100 in 52.20. Neci Larry and CeCe Walker joined Harrison and Larry on the 4 x 200 to win in 1:49.61. Larry, Larry, Walker and Harrison won the 4 x 400 in 4:23.84.

Chyna Stiger won the discus with a throw of 92-8 1/2 for the Lady Dawgs, while Walker won the high jump by clearing 5-3. McKinlee Russell won the 100 hurdles in 17.02.
