BROAD CREEK – Multiple vehicles, including a school bus with 38 Broad Creek Middle School kids, were involved in a collision on NC 24 at 3 p.m. Wednesday, causing substantial traffic backups on the roadway.
According to Carteret County Public Schools Communications Director Jennifer Perryman, one kid was taken to the hospital, and several other children were treated for minor injuries on the spot by emergency officials.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene and is investigating the accident, which occurred near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Franks Pizza.
Perryman stated in a brief statement, “At around 3 p.m. this afternoon, a bus carrying 38 students from Broad Creek Middle School was stopped on Highway 24 when it was struck by another vehicle.”
One student was taken to the hospital, while EMS treated many other pupils on the site for minor injuries. There are currently no details on the condition of the vehicle’s driver or the other vehicles involved in the accident.
