One Man Dead and Another Hurt in Fatal Gallatin County Jeep Crash – Speed and Narcotics Suspected

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, a one-vehicle crash in Gallatin County killed one person and injured another.

It occurred shortly after 8 a.m., near the intersection of Baxter Lane and Monforton School Road.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a 35-year-old male driver and a 43-year-old male passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee were traveling westbound on Baxter Lane.

The Jeep drove off the south side of the road, through a ditch, and then through a fence, colliding with a corner post.

The post crashed through the windshield and struck the passenger in the head.

The Jeep kept going until it collided with a tree.

Both occupants were transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, where the passenger died from his injuries. His name has not been released.

According to the MHP, the passenger was wearing a seatbelt, but the driver was not.

According to the MHP study, narcotics and speed may have been contributing factors to the crash.
