The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-vehicle crash that they believe was prompted by road rage.
The collision occurred on Wednesday at the intersection of West Mile 3 Road and North Bentsen Palm Drive, just north of Palmview.
According to troopers, a man riding a Honda CVR motorbike eastbound on West Mile Road 3 was pursued at high speed by a 2015 Buick Regal.
According to witnesses, the driver of the sedan was weaving in and out of traffic recklessly.
According to DPS, when the Buick reached the intersection of West 3 Mile Road and North Bentsen Palm Drive, it collided with a white Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped at a red light.
The vehicle then rear-ended a gray Ford Fiesta, which was also waiting for the signal. A passenger in the Silverado was brought to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance and treated before being released.
The driver of the Buick, 30-year-old Ramiro Ezequiel Garcia of Mission, was also taken to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance before being transferred to McAllen Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on Friday.
According to the announcement, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office obtained a statement from the motorcyclist, who said that the chase began after an argument between him and Garcia.
The DPS says a blood warrant was obtained for Garcia because they believe he was intoxicated at the time of the deadly collision.
