No. 8 Texas thumps Oklahoma 7-1

Stanford beats Texas 8-3

ARLINGTON, Texas — No. 8 Texas Baseball beat Oklahoma, 7-1, to open the series on Friday night at Globe Life Field. The Longhorns improved to 20-8 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 Conference play.

Pete Hansen was outstanding, pitching eight innings and allowing just one run on two hits and striking out 12 batters. He improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.

Skyler Messinger went 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Silas Ardoin was 2-for-2 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored. Mitchell Daly also had a productive day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Sooners scored the first run of the game on a run on a pair of hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The two first inning hits were the only allowed in the game.

The only other baserunners that the Sooners had were on a walk in the fourth, an error in the fifth and a walk in the eighth.

Texas got on the board in the top of the third after starting the inning with three-straight singles. Dylan Campbell singled to right, Eric Kennedy legged out a bunt single and the pair moved into scoring position with a double steal. Douglas Hodo III then drove them in with an RBI single up the middle. After a Murphy Stehly single, Ardoin drove in Hodo with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-0.

The Longhorns tacked on another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Messinger doubled to start the inning and Daly drove him in with an RBI single up the middle.

Texas added a fifth run in the sixth when Ardoin singled to start the inning, moved to second on an error, third on an infield single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Daly.

A sixth Longhorn run came home in the eighth on an RBI single by Messinger to drive in Silas Ardoin, who tripled to lead off the inning.

Campbell launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left-center in the top of the ninth, to extend the Texas lead to 7-1.

No. 8 Texas will go for the series win over Oklahoma on Saturday at noon at Globe Life Field.
