No. 8 Texas rallies for 12-8 win over Oklahoma

ARLINGTON, Texas — No. 8 Texas Baseball scored 11 unanswered runs to rally for a 12-8 win over Oklahoma on Sunday at Globe Life Field.

The Longhorns (21-9, 3-3) scored six runs in the seventh to tie the game up before scoring five more in the ninth to complete the series win over the Sooners.

Austin Todd made his first start since an injury in early March and went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Todd had the Longhorns’ first hit of the game in the fifth, then hit a single to start the rally in the seventh before driving in two insurance runs in the ninth.

Murphy Stehly went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, four total RBI and two runs scored. Dylan Campbell was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer of his own.

Coy Cobb pitched the final two innings and earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run on two hits.

Oklahoma got out to a 4-0 lead over Texas before they got on the board. The Longhorns scored a run in the sixth when Douglas Hodo III doubled, Ivan Melendez walked and Murphy Stehly hit an RBI single to trim the lead to 4-1.

The Sooners came right back and hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 7-1 lead.

Texas knotted the game up 7-7 with a six-run top of the seventh inning. The Longhorns got a pair of three-run homers in the inning, first from Dylan Campbell and then a game-tying shot from Stehly.

Marcus Olivarez was a steadying presence out of the bullpen, pitching two innings and allowing only one run on one hit.

With the game still knotted 7-7 going to the ninth, the Longhorns batted around and plated five runs on five hits and an error to go up 12-7. Hodo got the ninth inning barrage started by reaching on a two-base error. Ivan Melendez drove in Hodo for the go-ahead run in the ninth. After a pitching change, Todd hit a two-run single up the middle before Mitchell Daly hit a two-run double to cap off the inning.

The Longhorns are back home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field for the next five games, starting on Tuesday against UTRGV at 6:30 p.m.
