No. 22 TCU takes series from No. 9 Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 9 Texas Baseball held an 8-7 lead before a five-run eighth inning gave No. 22 TCU a 12-8 win Sunday at Lupton Stadium.

The Longhorns (17-10, 3-3 Big 12) held the lead starting in the first inning, but the Horned Frogs chipped away and finally pulled in front in the eighth.

Eric Kennedy was 4-for-5 with four infield singles in the game. He had one RBI and two runs scored. Duke Ellis, Ryan Reynolds and Michael McCann all had multiple-hit games.

Texas jumped all over TCU, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Ellis started the game with a single up the middle and Kennedy followed with a bunt single to put two runners on.

Todd laid down another perfect bunt and the Horned Frogs pitcher threw it away, allowing both Ellis and Kennedy to come around to score. A two-out RBI single by Reynolds scored Todd and made the score 3-0.

TCU got a run back quickly with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.

The Longhorns added two runs to their lead in the fourth inning, using some more small ball to do it. McCann started the inning with a bunt single and Lance Ford followed up by reaching on a bunt that was thrown into center field to put runners on the corners. Ellis walked to load the bases.

Kennedy legged out his second bunt single of the game to drive in a run and keep the bases loaded. Todd hit a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 5-2.

The Horned Frogs got another run back in the fourth on their second solo homer of the game.

Texas tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Reynolds and pinch-hitter Tate Shaw to expand the lead to 7-2.

TCU hit its third homer of the game in the sixth inning to trim the Texas lead to 7-5.

The Longhorns got one of the runs right back in the next half inning on an RBI groundout by Todd.

TCU’s fourth homer of the day made it a one-run game in the seventh inning and the Horned Frogs took the lead with five runs in the eighth.

Texas travels to San Antonio to take on Incarnate Word at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
