No. 20 TCU fells Stephen F. Austin 19-3

FORT WORTH — The No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs smacked the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Tuesday afternoon with 21 hits to cruise to a 19-3 win.

Austin Henry was the biggest swatter with a career-high four hits and five RBI. The 21 hits from TCU were obviously the most for 2019, but they were the most since the Frogs produced 22 against Southern Illinois on Feb. 14, 2015.

The Horned Frogs got off to a fast start with a 7-0 lead after the first inning. By the third inning, TCU jumped out to a 11-0 lead. Seven runs in the fourth inning brought the Horned Frogs’ lead to a lopsided 18-0 lead when the Lumberjacks took the top of the fifth inning.

In the eighth inning, Stephen F. Austin managed to produce three runs due to a trio of walks that led up to a wild pitch, passed ball, and ground out as their scoring plays. The Frogs got their 19th run in the eighth with an RBI double from Dean Frew.

Haylen Green got his first win of the season after pitching five shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking two, and fanning five. Matt Rudis had a perfect sixth inning in his college debut, and Marcelo Perez was perfect in the ninth inning to close out the game.

TCU is 7-4 on the year. Now, the Frogs take to road for four consecutive contests in California. TCU faces Long Beach State Friday night with a 8:00 p.m. Central Time first pitch.
