ARLINGTON, Texas — No. 19 Texas Baseball took down top-seeded TCU, 5-3, in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Thursday at Globe Life Field. The Longhorns (41-17) advance to the tournament semifinal on Saturday at 9 a.m. against either TCU or Oklahoma State.

Lucas Gordon was great yet again, pitching 7 2/3 innings and allowing one earned run on just two hits. With the win he improved to 7-1 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.30.

For the second consecutive day, Tristan Stevens pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and picked up the save.

Murphy Stehly went 2-for-3 and launched a three-run homer in the first inning. Douglas Hodo was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Eric Kennedy was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Texas jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Stehly’s three-run homer in the top of the first. The Longhorns were then held scoreless until the eighth inning.

TCU got an unearned run in the fourth inning to trim the Longhorns lead to 3-1. Gordon was able to get out of the jam with only the one run coming across.

The Horned Frogs added another run in the sixth inning after a leadoff double, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 3-2.

No. 19 Texas extended their lead to 5-2 with two runs on three hits in the top of the eighth. Hodo started things with a one-out double to left before a single by Kennedy put runners on the corners. A balk allowed Hodo to score the first run of the inning. After Ivan Melendez was intentionally walked, Austin Todd lined a clutch RBI single up the middle to drive in Kennedy.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Stevens was called on out of the bullpen and got a huge strikeout to end the threat.

TCU got one run back in the ninth on a solo homer before Stevens slammed the door for his third save of the season.
