No. 16 TCU dominates Abilene Christian 12-4

FORT WORTH — The No. 16 TCU Horned Frogs took advantage of errors to dispatch the Abilene Christian Wildcats 12-4 Wednesday night at Lupton Stadium.

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead off a solo homer in the top of the second inning. However, TCU’s Johnny Rizer evened the score on a two-out error, which was part of a five-run inning that gave the Horned Frogs a 5-1 lead.

Abilene Christian added two unearned runs in the fourth inning, but TCU added one run to make it 6-3 at the end of the fourth inning.

TCU added four more runs in the sixth inning, making it the second straight game the Horned Frogs scored double digits. Alex Isola earned TCU’s first home run of 2019 with a three-run dinger to left center to establish a 10-3 lead.

The Horned Frogs scored two more runs in the seventh inning, and the Wildcats added one more in the eighth for a 12-4 final score.

TCU produced seven strikeouts. Haylen Green allowed three runs with one earned in 3.2 innings of work. The Horned Frogs turned to Spencer Arrighetti Dalton Brown, Augie Mihlbauer, James Notary, Dawson Barr and Cal Coughlin to shut down Abilene Christian with Arrighetti getting the win, his first of the season.

Now 3-1 on the year and 10-7 all-time in home openers at Lupton Stadium, TCU hosts Grand Canyon Friday at 6:30 p.m.
