
Miscues and Mount Vernon spelled an end to the season for the Queen City Lady Dawgs today in Mount Pleasant as Mount Vernon takes game # 3 to advance to the next of the playoffs 11-3. Scoring started for Mount Vernon in the bottom of the first. MV LF Cameron pope single to left and is advanced on the next batter as MV SS Summer Rogers is intentionally walked to place runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. A single by MV 1B Carsyn Spears combined with aggressive base running allows for Pope and Rogers to score 2-0 Mount Vernon. The second inning started where the first inning ended for Mount Vernon as inning lead batter MV RF Kamryn Bolyn reached first on a single to right field and advanced to second on a stolen base. MV 2B Laryn Newsome drove a shot to deep center that hit the QC CF Serenity Oden's glove and then fell to the ground. This advanced Bolyn to third and Newsome now on first. Newsome proceeded to take second with a stolen base and now Mount Vernon has runners at 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs. MV lead off batter CF Natalie Norwood hits a hard shot to QC SS Mallori Stringer and Bolyn scored from 3rd with Newsome now on second base and one out. MV LF Cameron Pope grounds the ball to QC P Trinity Oden on the next batter. Trinity fielded the play and over threw QC 1B Laurel Moore for the second QC error in the inning. Newsome would score on the play and leave Pope on third after Queen City finally corralled the overthrow in right field. MV SS Summer Rogers then drove a single into left field to score Pope from third bringing the score to 5-0 at the end of two. Mount Vernon continued the offensive display in the bottom of the third ads MV C Daily Ross singled with one out. MV RF Kamryn Bolyn laid down a perfect bunt that confuses three QC defenders and gets to first on an infield single.MV 2B Lauren newsome then reached base on an error by QC SS Malloriu Stringer to load the bases with one out. MV DP PAcey Ford then hits into a groundout to QC SS Stinger as MV 2B Newsome is out on the force at second. QC 2B Turbeville was defensively aligned to stop the bunt and Stringer was forced to run and make the tag on second base in a close play. Meanwhile, MV pinch runner (for MV C Ross) Aubree Reder scored from third. MV CF Natalie Norwood would then seal the deal as she hits an inside the park home run scoring three. Norwood hit a line drive shot to the right of QC LF Kelsey Nash. As Nash charged forward to dive in an effort to make the out, the ball fell in front of her glove. QC CF Serenity Oden was unable to provide immediate backup and the ball rolled into the deep left field corner. Combine that with Norwood's speed and the score is now 9-0 Mount Vernon. Queen City did get on the board in the top of the fourth as QC CF Serenity Oden led the inning off with a single. Sister QC P Trinity Oden then follows suit on a single to right field. MV RF Kamryn Bolyn, while fielding the T. Oden single appeared to take her eyes off the softball as it proceeded to ricochet off her glove and into the deep right field area. Serenity would score on the play and Trinity would end up on third. QC RF Lauren Carrell (who was 2 for 3 on the afternoon) picked up her first single and scored Trinity from third. At this point the score is now MV 9 to QC 2. Mount Vernon would pick up another run in the bottom of the fourth as MV SS Summer Rogers would lead the inning off with a walk. She advanced to second with a stolen base. MV 1B Carsyn Spears then hit her second single of the game to bring the score to 10-2 with Rogers scoring from second and picking up her 3rd RBI. Mount Vernon concluded their scoring in the bottom of the fist as inning lead off batter MV 2B Lauryn Newsome would reach second on a stand up double. MV DP Pacey Ford would advance her to third on a SAC BUNT 1-4 scoring play. MV CF Natalie Norwood would then hit into a hard shot 4-3 fielder's choice that allowed Newsome to come home. Mount Vernon would end the inning with a 11-2 lead. QC 2B and lead off batter Brenna Turbeville would show fight in the top of the 7th as she accepted the first pitch from MV P Alexa Taylor and proceeded to drive the pitch to deep left center field. The ball bounced off the top of the outfield fence and provided Brenna with her first home run in this year's playoffs. Turbeville's home run concluded all scoring as the game ended with a 11-3 Mount Vernon victory. QC P Trinity Oden would take the loss for the Lady Dawgs as she allowed five hits and walked two in roughly 120 pitches with 4 strikeouts. Not all runs for Mount Vernon were earned however as the 3 Queen Errors early in the game assisted with the 11 run Lady Tiger Win. MV P Alexa Taylor would limit Queen City batters to 3 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 on 94 pitches.
