According to Michigan authorities, a guy who murdered two people over a $80 dice game employed an unorthodox approach to try to drown out the sound of gunfire.
Deputies responded shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday to 911 calls reporting a gunshot at an apartment complex in Pontiac’s 100 block of North Sanford Street near Fiddis Avenue. Deputies found two persons with multiple gunshot wounds: Sidney Ward III, 20, and Tyrone Davis Glenn Jr., 24. Ward was pronounced dead at the spot by paramedics, and Glenn was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Detectives discovered that the suspect fled the scene in an Uber. Before officers could locate the vehicle, the suspect fled around South Boulevard and Woodward Avenue. Officers discovered two handguns, according to the press statement.
The suspect also made a “futile attempt” to mute himself using a potato.
“And it didn’t work because we received calls from people reporting hearing gunshots,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told Detroit Fox station WJBK.
An inquiry indicated that a 32-year-old Detroit man became agitated after losing $80 in a dice game. Deputies discovered the suspect wandering on the sidewalk of 8 Mile Road. He was carrying two grocery bags and a case of beer at 8:30 p.m., or about 12 hours after the incident.
The defendant was captured and taken into jail by members of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Gun Violence Task Force. Cops turned over the case to prosecutors, who will formally charge the man with murder. His name has yet to be made public. He is still in Oakland County Jail.
I am extremely pleased with our substation, all of our detectives, and our partners for their efforts in apprehending this cold-blooded killer in under 12 hours,” Bouchard said in a statement. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, but it still shocks me to see how little some people regard human life. I hope to see him brought to justice and held accountable.”
