A man was killed and two others were hospitalized after a boat crashed near Key Largo on Saturday morning.
Just after 10:25 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was dispatched to a boating accident involving many people near Card Sound, northwest of North Carson Road and Pumpkin Key.
Multiple MDFR fireboats, two Air Rescue helicopters, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and the United States Coast Guard also responded.
MDFR Air Rescue rescued two persons and transported them to the Jackson South Trauma Center. USCG divers were also deployed, and a third individual was rescued from the water. The third victim, identified as 21-year-old Eytan M. Genoune of Boynton Beach, died as a result of his injuries, the FWC stated.
According to the preliminary inquiry, a 34-foot Nor-Tech yacht with three occupants was headed south when a “sudden turn” sent Genoune and the other two overboard, the FWC stated. The circumstances behind the crash are still being investigated.
This is the second boating catastrophe in the Florida Keys in as many days, following the death of a Hialeah woman and the ejection of five others from a boat during a powerboat race on Thursday afternoon.
