Major Winter Storm Brings Blizzard Warnings, Heavy Snow, and Severe Weather to Southwest and Plains

We continue to see substantial snowfall in regions of New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas. Ahead of this major low-pressure system, we are seeing heavy rain and thunderstorms develop in the Texas panhandle, northeast Texas, and western Oklahoma east of the panhandle.

As low pressure deepens, winds build up in northeast New Mexico and southeast Colorado’s higher altitudes.

With heavy snow, reduced visibility, and extremely high wind chills, there are rising fears of blizzard conditions in these places.

In response, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for portions of New Mexico until 8 p.m. MST.

While no blizzard warnings have been issued for Colorado, brief blizzard or near-blizzard conditions may still develop in higher elevations and mountain passes.

The chance of severe weather will grow during the night and tomorrow across regions of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Expect severe winds, huge hail, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and the threat of a few tornadoes.
