WACO — Nick Loftin hit a leadoff home run for the Baylor Bears to get the first run of their 6-3 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats 6-3 Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark.
The homer was a 1-0 offering that flew over the left field wall. Loftin’s dinger was one of two on the evening and two of three that the Bears hit against the Wildcats. The second home run Loftin belted was in the second inning that gave the Bears a 2-0 lead. It was Loftin’s first multi-home run game of his career.
Josh Bissonette hit the third home run for Baylor, and both Loftin and Bissonette were tied for a team-high two RBI.
Abilene Christian halved the lead in the sixth inning with Dalton Dunn hitting a solo home run to make the score 2-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Baylor managed to score four runs on five hits with two outs to establish a 6-1 lead.
Abilene Christian attempted a rally with two runs in the eighth inning thanks to Koby Claborn hitting a two-run homer, but Daniel Caruso got Baylor out of the inning and Kyle Hill picked up the save in the ninth.
Junior Luke Boyd got his first start since Feb. 2017 for the Bears and went two innings while fanning four Wildcats.
Baylor continues their seven-game homestand with a three-game series with Cal Poly Friday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Baylor Ballpark. The game will be streamed live on facebook.com/baylorbaseball.
