LONG BEACH, Calif. — Nick Lodolo and Marcelo Perez allowed just one unearned run as the TCU Horned Frogs defeated the Long Beach State Dirtbags 4-1 Friday night.
Lodolo pitched for seven innings and retired the side in order three times. He also faced only more than four batters in an inning once while giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out eight.
Perez earned his second save of the season as the freshman struck out four among the six he retired. Perez allowed just one base runner in two innings of work.
While the Horned Frogs’ pitching was exemplary, the Dirtbags’ pitching was not. Long Beach State’s pitching staff threw a combined six wild pitches in the contest with two of them leading directly to runs plated, a huge factor in the game’s three-run margin.
TCU moves to 8-4 on the season and will continue their series with Long Beach State Saturday with an 8:00 p.m. Central Time first time. Jake Eissler starts for the first time in 2019 for TCU.
