Lady Rabbs win final race to capture Region II-3A track championship

WHITEHOUSE, Texas – Atlanta’s girls had to win the final race (4 x 400 relay) Saturday at Wildcat Stadium to win the Region II-3A track meet with 84 points. Tatum was second with 74.

The Lady Rabbs won all three relays en route to the title. Kitty Andrews, Jennifer Easter, Keyona Easter and Shevonia Smith won the 4 X 100 in 48.36. The same four girls won gold in the 4 x 200 in a blazing 1:40.77.

Daniella Arrendo, Andrews, Hannah Wicks and India Cooper prevailed in the 4 x 400 in 4:03.37.

Smith also captured gold in the 300 hurdles with an area-best time of 44.41. She appeared on her way to winning in the 100 hurdles when she tripped and fell to the ground.

Atlanta boys finish fifth

Atlanta’s boys were tied for third place going into the final event, with Jefferson and Oak Cliff tied for first place with 45 points. Tatum’s boys won the 4 x 400 and took home the team title with 58 points. The Rabbs finished fifth at 42.

The Rabbs’ Jacorian Fields won the triple jump with a leap of 46-8 1/2. Josh Edwards was second in the 110 hurdles in 14.71, while Dagen Ward placed second in the 1600 in 4:28.36.

Other area qualifiers for the state meet in Austin were New Boston’s Chloe Davis in the high jump (5-5). Hooks’ Logan Murray was second in the 100 meters (11.02).

Third place went to Redwater’s Joshua Long in the triple jump (44.25); New Boston’s Davis in the 100 hurdles (15.97); and Sydney Hornbuckle was third in the 800 (2:20.33) and 1600 (5:34.50).
