WACO — Junior RHP Hayden Kettler produced a career high nine strikeouts for the No. 12 Baylor Bears to shutout the Cornell Big Red 17-0 Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.

Kettler went six innings and allowed just three hits and a walk as he improves to 2-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA.

Redshirt freshman Chase Wehsener went 3of-4 with five RBI to lead the Bears offense, which had 18 total hits on the night. The five RBI were a new career high for the redshirt freshman.

“We are just trying to do the same thing every time, making good contact,” said Wehsener. “It felt good to see some finally hit the grass. It was just a great team win. We’ve got to come out and do the same thing tomorrow, just stay on it and not take anything lightly.”

All nine Bears starters hit safely, a feat not accomplished since an 18-0 win over Kansas State on April 27, 2018. It was also a game that saw six Baylor batters collect multi-hit games.

Baylor continues the series with Cornell Saturday with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch for game two at Baylor Ballpark. LHP Tyler Thomas will face Cornell’s RHP John Natoli.
